School safety is a priority at River Oaks. During the year the staff practices safety drills to help students learn and practice procedures to use if an emergency arises. Some of the drills include fire drills, lockdown drills, tornado drills and evacuation drills. Some of the procedures we follow are to keep all entry/exit doors locked during the day and we do not prop open doors.
I wanted to remind parents about these safety drills and am asking parents to double check your child’s backpack for items that are not allowed at school. Today as students were getting their backpacks and jackets to go home a toy gun was found in a students back pack. Students that saw the gun alerted the classroom teacher and she informed me of the incident. I contacted the director or student services and central office to inform them of the incident. I am sharing this information with you and want to assure you that we are addressing the incident. Please let me know if you have any questions.
