RIVER OAKS MISSION STATEMENT:
River Oaks Elementary School is committed to developing lifelong learners with essential skills
for a successful future. This commitment includes providing a safe and
orderly environment for our diverse school population.
We challenge all students to achieve through varied learning opportunities.
We encourage all students to be thoughtful, contributing citizens in our changing world.
Points of Pride include:
AYP accomplishments and NCA accreditation – Chairs Sheila Niner and Julie Rollins.
100% staff participation to implement goals:
Attain State accreditation for MEAP scores in science.
Improve English Language Arts. Particular focus on writing skills and use of VTS
strategies.
Improve math MEAP scores concentrating on implementation of Everyday Math.
Second year implementation of Arkansas Comprehensive Literacy Model – Coach

Recognition by Chamber of Commerce for majority of staff.
Peer Mediation. Faculty advisor – Angie Burley.
Program consistent for 8 years.
Assertive Discipline. Faculty leaders – Sharon Baloga, Angie Burley and Linda Webb. Faculty study and school-wide implementation of initiatives from Lee Cantor’s work to promote Character Education.
DeBug – School-wide strategy to foster students’ independent problem solving.
